WeyrBowlHistory of Dark Moon WeyrHold![]() “...I leave Dark Moon to the fate of time. When I see it again I cannot say. I do know that when I do she will lay barren and alone. Should Thread fall again it shall not be the wings of Dark Moon to rise to defend our Holds, but that of another. A bond that cannot be broken to matter the time and place.” ~ 2-10-2806 That was the last words recorded by, who is assumed to be, Weyrleader E’lan, rider of bronze Narth. It wasn’t long after that date that riders sent to Dark Moon were returning with news of abandonment – complete and utter abandonment. It was like a page from the history books. Until the fall of Falas Weyr at the end of the Pass, no one talked much about that disappearance. When the riders of Falas needed a place to relocate, they chose Dark Moon (which had the unofficial nick-name of Falas’ Rising Moon). Lead by white rider K’man and gold rider Synde for five Turns, the Weyr was forced to fend for itself as the holders had not liked the idea of tithing to a Weyr once again. Only New Hope and Tropical Holds provided any tithe as they had been founded after the Curse. In the turns following the settlement of Dark Moon, Mardanith rose four times every other Turn which was expected of the rescued gold. Her first clutch, joined by two clutches by white Esarith and green Mindath, was the last project for the FGPC before it transfered to Tripaldi Weyr. This clutch hatched in 2810. Her second hatched in 2812. The year following this, K’man took his group of willing riders forward in time, three years before Thread was due to fall on Pern again. Mardanith clutched again in 2814. S’mar and a small group then vanished at the end of the Turn’s End celebrations in 2816. With him went a handful of riders from the last two clutches and the first. It was believed that S’mar left because he believed K’man would not have enough time to build a proper fighting Weyr in three years. That very year, Mardanith clutched again. During the span of the next two years, things were quite and ordinary. Eventually, tithes stopped coming to the Weyr at all and L’gal began to allow people to expand holdings outside of the Weyr, to live as holders. Mardanith flew one last time in 2818 which produced a small clutch. What startled everyone was that the queen deserted her clutch three days before hatching. L’gal and Kizanzee vanished on 6-1-2818 with a small wing. The clutch hatched, yielding one bronze dragon. Two riders remained that were expected, still, to go forward. Philippe and Juniamaa were still there. They never seemed shocked that S’mar and L’gal had vanished without telling anyone. The two elves kept their mouths shut and for a time, the two managed to pull the WeyrHold back together from the shock of loosing the their Weyrleadrers. N’han, a holdbred land from Mashten Hold, had Impressed bronze Targoth at that last hatching. He was a older boy and had been trained in hold management before his Search. Quickly, and without being asked, N’han took over the responsibilities that Philippe found annoying and cared little for. Incidentally, Ryo took up the role of Weyrwoman and Lady Holder despite her craft upbringing. She was a farmer, knew about the land and about animals. She also knew how to manage the Lower Caverns. They developed a partnership and, even if there dragons were still young, took on the role of leading Dark Moon as a WeyrHold. 2820 brought a new change. Light green Ilverinth clutches seven eggs on the sands which had been unexpected to all but Juniamaa who had felt rebellious enough to give her dragon a fertility drug so she would clutch again. N’han picked three riders, including Philippe who had been Searching for all the previous clutches, to Search for the clutch. It was a new chapter for Dark Moon, as Philippe noted later. In two years he and Juniamaa would be departing to the future and the unknown fate of Falas Weyr. Until then there was still a chapter or two left for them here. Here begins the new chapters of Dark Moon Weyr and the remaining riders of Falas Weyr who decided to remain behind while the others went forward to a future only we know of!
